3 Tips For Blending Hair Extensions With Short Hair

Is long hair is currently the stuff of dreams for you? Maybe its because your hair is either too thin or simply refuses to grow. Or perhaps you find yourself in a state of growing it out due to some poorly thought-through plan to change your life, starting with a dramatic chop. Ok, so maybe that didn’t pan out as imagined, but it’s ok, we have a much better plan. How about blending some hair extensions with your short hair to get more of a ‘goddess’ vibe going on again?

The critical thing with short hair and extensions is coverage. It doesn’t matter whether your hair is thick or thin, you will need lots of hair, so don’t skimp. That might mean ordering two sets of extensions just to be safe.

Before you try any of our handy tips, the first thing you need to do is make sure your extensions have been cut and styled to suit your hair. For short hair, we recommend taking your hair extensions to your hairdresser and layering your extensions with different lengths for a more seamless blend.

With this sorted, here are the steps you need to take.

Hide Short Hair Under Your Extensions

Section off the top of your hair and tie it or pin it up out of the way. Leave about a quarter (the hair that will be hidden under your extensions), down. You might have to leave more or less hair down, depending on the thickness of your hair.

Gather the hair underneath into a little pony or plait it to keep it out of the way.

Drop the top sections down and apply extensions as normal.

How To Make Short Layers Look Invisible

Less hair on top. Otherwise, you might end up with an unintentional mullet owing to a bunch of short layers on top and a length party going on below. And let’s be honest, a mullet should ALWAYS be an entirely intentional statement.

Leaving less on top will make sure there’s no noticeable disconnect between your own shorter hair and the long extensions – aka no shaggy layers.

Blending Your Hair Extensions To Achieve The ‘Goddess’ Vibe

The best way to style hair extensions to look as natural as possible is with curls or waves. Curling your real hair together with your hair extensions adds texture. The best part? You won’t be able to see any short layers sticking out. Adding textured waves is perfect for styling short or layered hair with a halo.

You can save time by curling your extensions before applying.

Once your extensions are in, take shorter lengths and curl them with some longer strands. Any super-short sections around the face, curl them under and pin them under to stop them sticking out if necessary.

There are lots of other handy hints we could give you, but these three are the most important. We’ll save the others for next time, but feel free to drop any questions into comments below.
