Do you ever look at someone and think their hair colour looks amaze or that their eyes really pop, while someone else looks a bit drab or even unwell? It most likely has to do with whether their hair colour works with their eyes and skin tone.
The most essential thing to consider when deciding on a change in hair colour is the balance or contrast that your hair colour will have to that of your eyes, natural skin tone, and complexion.
Your natural hair colour basically restricts how many shades you can go down or up, without needing major changes involving dyes and professional treatment.
The right hair colour will draw attention to your baby blues first, then to your skin and general appearance.
Determining Your Skin Tone
Hold your arm out with your palms facing up at the sun. Take a look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If they look bluish or purple, you have cool-toned skin. If they look greenish, you have warm-toned skin. If you can’t quite tell whether they are green or blue, it is likely that you are neutral, or olive-skinned.
Once you’ve worked out your skin tone, it will be much easier to determine the correct colour options to accentuate your eyes, complement your skin tone and highlight your features.
Colours For Blue Eyes With A Cool Skin Tone
Choose colours with the words ash or cool. Try base colours of black, blonde or intense brown, just make sure you avoid red undertones. Red undertones do not work with cool skin tones. You can also add some contrast with wheat, honey or ash highlights.
Blue eyes also look stunning with platinum or ash blonde hair.
Black or dark chocolate contrasts brilliantly against cool white skin and icy blue eyes.
Colours For Blue Eyes With A Warm Skin Tone
Honey, gold or beige colours are perfect for blue eyes and warm skin. Try golden blonde, dark golden brown, chestnut, or auburn for base shades and to add depth and intrigue, choose streaks of cinnamon or red as highlights.
Flaming red hair always looks incredible as a backdrop for blue eyes. If you’re not quite brave enough for a bold red, try an eye-catching strawberry blonde.
Colours For Grey Eyes
For grey eyes, either red tones, dark brown, or black look best. However grey is such a neutral colour that almost anything would work. The most important thing is to aim for a contrast between the eye and hair colour, but basically, you can’t really go wrong so have fun!
