Your friends will want to help you out, and as a general rule people love talking about their hair, even to people they’ve just met. Think of word of mouth as one of the best free referral services available.
- Search social media. Search hashtags for what you’re looking for on Instagram to get as particular as you wish (for example, #balayage or #yourarea+hairstylist), and then when you’ve found suitable candidates, stalk their website and Facebook page to get a feel for their work.
- Book a consultation. It’s completely within your rights to ask for a ten to fifteen-minute consultation with any hairstylist. If they won’t agree to do this for you, take it as a warning sign and walk away. During this discussion you can ask them anything you want, the general idea being so that you can get a feel for whether or not you’re a good fit for each other.
