It can be so frustrating when you’ve gone to some degree of effort to get your mane looking as on point as possible, only to have it messed up by the rain, wind and humidity. Fortunately, there are more than a few things you can do on rainy, humid days to help keep your hair looking as close to fantastic as possible. Read on for our handy hints and tips on how to help your hair stay cool, even in the event of wet weather.
HYDRATE
Keep it well hydrated from the get-go. Hair that’s on the dry side will tend to frizz more so make sure your hair is well moisturized with a great conditioner and avoid products that contain sulphates and alcohol if you can as these will be unnecessarily harsh on your strands.
PROTECT
Use a heat protectant before styling. Not only will this protect your hair from the harsh effects of the blasts of hot air from your dryer and the contact heat from your curling wand, it will also smooth down the hair cuticle, sealing in moisture and making it less prone to frizziness.
DRY
Get the blow dry right. If you give yourself a spectacularly well-done blow dry you’ll lessen your chances of your hair going awry while you’re out in the elements. You’ll want to make sure you’re using the attachment on the nozzle so you can direct the air in the right direction, down the hair shaft, to seal in the cuticle and give it a really good shape. You also want to use a paddle or round brush to maximise control and help give it a flawless, frizz-free finish.
HOLD
Our final tip is to use hairspray. Giving your hair a good, even, all-over coating of a light hairspray will help keep those flyaway frizzies at bay, and ensure your hairstyle stays put, no matter what the weather.
