Why is it we don’t think twice about going out for dinner and spending $300 plus on a delicious meal and a couple of cocktails or dropping a full set of Medusa hair extensions into a ‘cart’, but when it comes to upgrading our styling tools we flinch at the thought of parting with our hard-earned cash?
All I can say is, thank goodness for Afterpay!
We had a chat with a few of our regular stylists and asked them the question – “Which hairdryer do you currently use, and do you have an ultimate favourite”? Here are the winners:
Dyson Supersonic
The price is right up there with more than a week’s rent for many of us. At a cool $549, this hairdryer is a substantial investment, but is it really worth it? We think yes, and so do Medusa ambassadors, @isabellajanehairmakeup and @chantellemareehair and who both use the Dyson for salon work.
“I love my Dyson Supersonic Pro!” – Isabella Jane
Dyson claims that the Supersonic hairdryer is actually better for your hair, “engineered to protect hair from extreme heat damage.” The thermal sensor on the Supersonic measures the exit flow temperature of the air over 40 times a second, so it’s constantly regulating the air temperature to keep your hair safer from heat damage than it otherwise might be with any other hairdryer.
This hairdryer has the capacity to smooth out even the most out of control curl!
Parlux 3200 Ceramic & Ionic Edition
The Parlux 3200 Ceramic & Ionic Edition is one clever dryer. Less weight, smaller size but more negative ions, heat and power than you could ever use from Italy’s No.1 professional dryer manufacturer. This patented edition combines the effects of ceramic and negative ion technology. Droplets of water are transformed into micro-molecules which are absorbed by the hair whilst drying leaving it soft, shiny and healthy.
“I use a Parlux at home and love it. I’ve had the Parlux for 10 years. At work, I use my Dyson, and it’s great!” ~ Chantelle Maree
When we quizzed all of our favourite professionals, including @lucianarose, the Parlux came up tops for personal choice, with most saying it would be their go-to when it is time to retire their current dryer. No wonder you find Parlux in just about every salon and an ever-increasing number or regular bathrooms!

Twin Turbo Ceramic & Ionic
There’s a lot to love about this professional hairdryer! The Twin Turbo 3200 ‘Compact’ Ceramic & Ionic hairdryer is used in top salons around the world. This dryer is mighty although it’s small. Offers 1900 watts of drying power for hair that is healthy and shiny.
“My Parlux was damaged while travelling, so I am currently using the very first hairdryer I ever bought, 2o years ago – a Twin Turbo 3200 Ceramic & Ionic – and it’s still going strong. I highly recommend it!” ~ Luciana
The Twin Turbo series of dryers won’t break the bank, feature powerful ionic ceramic technology and are a favourite of many.
In our chats, @lucianarose named the Twin Turbo as her never say die back up dryer, having bought her first one at the start of her career and it is still going strong. I also purchased mine 20 years ago and it has only just decided to retire. If you are after durability and lifespan, these dryers are excellent value for money!

So there you have it, almost a tie between the Parlux 3200 Ceramic & Ionic and the Dyson Supersonic Pro. If we were to split the responses into two camps, the Dyson came out as the preferred salon dryer, while the Parlux was a clear personal favourite.
Having owned both the bulletproof Twin Turbo and more recently, a Parlux, I can definitely recommend the Parlux due to its light weight and ability to dry my thick with a minimum of fuss, leaving it super smooth and silky in no time.
I love the durability and power of the Twin Turbo, but it is heavier than the Parlux.
We hope this helps when it’s time to trade up to a new dryer!
Love, Medusa 🌸 xx
