Unlike clip-in hair extensions, your tape hair extensions have the advantage of being secured to your head 100% of the time. This is a wonderful time-and-fuss-saving advantage, as you never have to worry about messing around with applying them correctly in the morning, then taking them out at the end of the day. There are a few things you can do though to ensure a good night’s rest while minimising any chance of damage to your hair and tape hair extensions.
-
Go to bed with dry hair
Wet hair is highly susceptible to damage while you sleep; it can result in horrific tangles and, worst case scenario, matting. Dry your hair before you go to bed.
-
Check your bonds and free your hair from tangles and knots
Give your hair a thorough brush, checking for any sneaky knots or tangles that have accrued throughout the course of your day. It’s a good habit to get into as well to regularly inspect your bonds and check they are properly attached to your hair. Even one night’s sleep without your hair extensions secured properly can result in damaging tangles.
-
Braid your hair or make a turned under ponytail
Braiding is the most secure and traditional way of keeping your extensions in place. While your hair is braided, you can toss and turn in your sleep and your hair won’t get caught up in tangles and knots. Plus, it’s easy to deconstruct in the morning and has the added bonus of creating pretty soft waves in your hair. For a turned under ponytail, create a low pony then pull the end of the pony through a hole above where the elastic is, securing it to your head. Use a snag free hair elastic to decrease the chance of your hair snapping as you pull it out the next morning. -
Use a silk or satin pillow cover
The silky surface will lessen the possibility of knots and tangles forming, where a cotton pillowcase causes more friction between your head and the pillow. -
Apply an overnight conditioner once a week
This is the perfect time for your hair to soak in nourishing treatment for hours, and for the treatment to do its magic while you sleep
