The 90’S Hair Flip

The 90’S Hair Flip

Lauren Conrad’s doing it. Kristen Stewart’s rocking it. Jessica Alba manages to make it look classy and fun at the same time. With a recent trend in fashion towards all things 90’s, one thing we’re loving is the resurgence of the iconic hair flip.

If you aren’t blessed with the kind of natural tresses that create the perfect flip without much effort, you are not alone! For some people, it takes a little extra effort to make it look so flipping effortless. Here are some top tips to achieve the best flip-worthy results, that even Cher from Clueless would have thought was the total bomb:

Tip 1: Wash sparingly, as in every 2-3 days, and use a volumizing and/or body enhancing shampoo and conditioner.

Tip 2: Utilize dry shampoo. This will add texture to the roots.

Tip 3: Use some product like a mousse, thickening gel, or thickening cream at the roots. This will give it some volume and lift when blow drying.

Tip 4: Blow dry your hair using your fingers, and flip your hair from side to side as you dry, mussing up the roots with your fingers to give it some extra lift.

Tip 5: Instead of curls, try twisting the wand back and forth in alternating directions as you run it down your hair to create more natural-looking waves.

Tip 6: Backcomb the roots of your hair for more lift.

Tip 7: Do apply clip-in hair extensions, but make sure they are low enough down, and far enough back, that they won’t be seen.

Tip 8: Create a deep side part, starting in line with the arch of your eyebrow.

Tip 9: Pile your hair on your head if you need to finish getting dressed or do anything else before you go out. This will create… you guessed it… even MORE lift at your roots! Once you’re ready, let your hair down (ha!), flip your hair in the opposite direction and mist some hairspray like it’s 1995!
